Johnny Gill Sets the Record Straight About His “Feud” with Bobby Brown

Over the years, some journalists have portrayed the relationship between New Edition members Johnny Gill and Bobby Brown as fraught. However, Johnny tells Oprah: Where Are They Now?, everyone has it wrong.

As Johnny tells it, it was widely believed that he came on board to replace Bobby when the R&B star was kicked out of the group in 1985. In reality, Johnny says, he was asked to replace Ralph Tresvant, who was beginning to embark on a solo project.
